ORIGINAL ART FOR HEAVY MUSIC

Tamsa Studio is an independent art project dedicated to original, hand-drawn artwork for heavy music.

Working primarily in black-and-white pen and ink, I create dark, detailed illustrations inspired by skulls, anatomy, decay, and the imagery of extreme and underground music.

Each piece is created independently and offered as an exclusive commercial license to one buyer.

The person behind the art

An Independent Artist. A Pen and Ink Obsession.

Tamsa Studio is an independent art project focused on original, hand-drawn artwork for heavy music.

I work primarily in black-and-white pen and ink, creating dark, detailed illustrations shaped by my own ideas, interests, and fascination with the imagery of extreme music.

Rather than following trends or producing artwork to a brief, I prefer to work independently, developing each piece in my own direction. The result is a collection of original illustrations available to bands under exclusive commercial licenses.

A Lifelong Habit of Drawing

I started drawing as a kid at school, copying Dragon Ball Z characters, cutting them out of cardboard, and playing with them with friends. Drawing has been part of my life ever since, although there have been periods when I put it aside and returned to it later.

Over the years, I explored illustration through freelance work on platforms such as Fiverr and Upwork, eventually building my own website, GrimsoulArt, where I mainly created commissioned artwork. I also experimented with T-shirt designs, print-on-demand platforms, and Etsy.

Those experiences helped me develop my skills and discover what kind of artist I wanted to be.

I realized that I work best when I have the freedom to follow my own ideas. I enjoy creating something because I want to see it exist, without having every decision dictated by a brief. That doesn't mean I never take on commissions, but I prefer to keep my main focus on making the work I believe in and finding the people who connect with it.

That's the idea behind Tamsa Studio.

The Process: Pen, Ink, and Patience

I've always been drawn to traditional pen-and-ink illustration. Even as a kid, I was introduced to the medium, and it has remained my preferred way of working.

My process usually starts with a pencil sketch, which is often the most challenging part: finding the composition and establishing a solid foundation for the image. Once the drawing begins to take shape, I move into inking. That's where I feel most at home.

I build the image through lines, crosshatching, textures, and deep areas of black, using tools such as Sakura Pigma Micron pens, Sakura brush pens, Gelly Roll pens, and brushes for larger filled areas.

When the drawing is finished, I scan it and make any necessary digital adjustments, usually limited to cleaning up the image or adding a little texture. The illustration itself remains rooted in the original hand-drawn work.

I'm self-taught, having learned through years of practice, experimentation, books, online courses, and watching other artists share their techniques. I've never followed a formal path in illustration. I've simply kept drawing, learning, and finding my own way of working.

Artwork on My Own Terms

For me, one of the best parts of drawing is when I can get completely absorbed in the process. Sometimes, when an idea comes together and the inking starts flowing, I lose track of time. That's the feeling I keep coming back for.

Tamsa Studio is built around that kind of creative freedom.

I create finished illustrations in my own style and offer them to bands looking for distinctive artwork for their releases, merchandise, and other projects. Instead of producing the same design for multiple buyers, each available illustration is sold only once under an exclusive commercial license.

I retain copyright to my work, while the buyer receives the commercial usage rights set out in the license agreement. Once an artwork is purchased, it is removed from the available collection.

It's a way for me to keep creating independently while giving bands the opportunity to use original, hand-drawn artwork that won't be sold to another buyer.

Outside of drawing, I'm into heavy music and play electric guitar. I'm also drawn to dark films and horror, which naturally overlap with the imagery and atmosphere I enjoy exploring in my artwork.
